The World Health Organization (WHO) said more than 5 million people die each year around the world due to their sedentary lifestyle and not being physically active. They also said this figure is apart from the deaths reported due to the coronavirus.
The agency released an alarming study where they have said one in four adults around the world do not engage in a sufficient amount of physical activities. This has become one of the leading causes of deaths in many parts of the world.
A sedentary lifestyle contributes greatly to the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, one of the leading causes of death.
On the other hand, the vast majority of coronavirus deaths were caused by complications arising from an underlying illness, in most cases a non-communicable disease such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney failures. All these illnesses have a direct correlation to sedentary lifestyles.
WHO released their updated guidelines on sedentary behaviour late Thursday.
