Hundreds hospitalized in India due to mystery illness

Over 200 hundred people have been hospitalized in India’s southern state of Andra Pradesh over the weekend for displaying a range of symptoms including fits, nausea and falling unconscious. 

There are a number of children among those who have been affected by this mystery disease. They had complained of burning eyes and then vomited. 

The exact number hospitalized was 227 and one person has died. 

The state has ruled out the illness as COVID-19 as all the patients have tested negative to the highly contagious virus.

So far, Andra Pradesh has recorded over 800,000 COVID-19 cases, the third highest in India. However, the cause for the sudden illness that affected the people in the small town of Eluru has not been identified yet. 

The state has sent a special medical team to find out what exactly is affecting the people and the reason for its sudden appearance.
