Ayurveda is most commonly known as the science of life. In Sanskrit, Ayur means life and Veda means knowledge. It offers a vast body of knowledge on healthy living. And, it also offers a holistic approach to wellness.

Drink water in the morning

Start your day by drinking water. Drinking a warm glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning can help warm up the digestive system. But, it doesn’t have to be just water. It can be a cup of hot tea, as tea contains natural anti-oxidants. Also, you can add apple cider vinegar, small pieces of dried ginger and a teaspoonful of honey into the water. This can help rejuvenate the body and clear the mind.

Ayurveda and oil pulling

We brush teeth using various brands of toothpaste. But, there is no guarantee that these chemical infused pastes can completely detoxify your mouth. Then, does Ayurveda has a natural remedy for this issue? Yes, it does. It only takes one tablespoon of oil. Put the tablespoon of oil in your mouth. It can be either coconut oil or sesame oil. Then, swish the oil around in your mouth. You can do this for about 10 minutes. But, do not swallow the oil. The oil is collecting the bacteria in your mouth and among your teeth. Afterwards, discard the oil. Then brush your teeth as usual. This can refresh your mouth and breath.



Oil massage for healthy skin

Having a glowing skin is the first sign that you are healthy inside. Dry brushing is one of the time-tested methods to release toxins. Also, it improves blood circulation. When dry brushing the skin is stimulated. This gives it a glow from inside.

Thereafter, give yourself an oil massage. You can do this by yourself. In Ayurveda, this method is called ‘Abyanga’. You need to massage yourself for at least 15 minutes. During this process, let your body feel loved. Also, use a warm, scented oil. This can reduce the effects of ageing. On the other hand, an oil massage can increase blood circulation. Calming of the nerves is definitely an added benefit.

Power of meditation

Ayurveda is a holistic approach to healthy living. It is a combination of mind, body and soul. Without one, the others cannot offer the complete benefit of this ancient wisdom. Hence, meditation is an integral part of Ayurveda.

The simplest form of meditation is similar to a breathing exercise. First, sit still in a quiet corner. Then, take a deep breath through the nose. Thereafter, slowly exhale through the mouth. While doing this, empty your mind of all other thoughts. Only concentrate on your breathing. Soon, your body will begin to relax.
